A taxi drivers' protest will be held in Sofia on December 20, said Snezhana Nikova, head of the Burgas chapter of the Branch Chamber of Taxi Drivers and Operators, at a BTA press conference in Sofia. The reason for the protest is the increase in the price of mandatory third-party liability insurance.
The protestors initially planned to block motorways, roads and border checkpoints, but decided not to interfere with citizens' holidays. "If there is no decision by the New Year, the protests will continue and will not be confined to just Bulgaria," explained Nikova.
"The taxi drivers' protests will continue," Volodya Domashenko, co-chair of the National Association for the Protection of Carriers and Taxi Drivers, told BTA a few days ago. He explained that although taxi companies managed to negotiate a significantly smaller increase in mandatory third party liability insurance with some of the insurers, drivers still find the prices too high.
