President Rumen Radev Tuesday met with MPs of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) as part of consultations on the formation of a government. CC-DB is the second largest parliamentary group, with 37 MPs in the 240-seat Parliament.
Radev told the MPs that being the second largest political force, they carry serious responsibility for the effective functioning of Parliament and for the formation of a government in line with the Constitution.
Earlier in the day, the President met with MPs of GERB-UDF, the largest parliamentary group. Radev said GERB-UDF had stated they would make efforts to form a regular government, and asked CC-DB if they would be part of these efforts.
Under the Constitution, the President mandates the largest parliamentary group to form a government. If it fails to do so, he mandates the second largest one. If it also fails, the third exploratory mandate goes to a parliamentary group chosen by the President.
