Police officers found over seven kilogrammes of cocaine during an inspection of a car in Momchilgrad, Shteryo Milchev, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Kardzhali, said on Friday.
The 48-year-old driver of the car, who has dual citizenship and Bulgarian identity documents, was detained and a pre-trial proceeding has been initiated in the case.
Milchev said that six packages with a powdery white substance were found in the car and that they tested positive for cocaine. He pointed out that the vehicle was not stopped randomly, and the seized amount of drugs would be worth over BGN 4 million.
"I dare to say that in the history of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Kardzhali, a similar quantity of drugs in terms of volume and quality has not been found to date," Milchev emphasized. He thanked the team that participated in uncovering the crime and noted that he would propose the highest award and distinction to the employees who contributed most to the investigation.
