On the first working day of the National Assembly, Vazrazhdane MPs from Stara Zagora Iskra Mihaylova and Daniel Prodanov submitted a draft resolution for the preservation of the Maritsa Iztok energy complex, the party press centre reported on Monday.
The draft aims to oblige the Council of Ministers to take all necessary actions to preserve jobs and the operation of the coal facilities in the complex.
Among the key requirements in the proposal are:
The National Assembly to oblige the Council of Ministers to immediately suspend all actions that may directly or indirectly lead to the premature termination of the operation of the coal-fired facilities at Maritsa Iztok.
The government to seek the renegotiation of international agreements concerning the coal industry in order to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the complex until the lignite resources in the region are exhausted, under conditions that guarantee the country's energy security and economic stability.
The Executive to push at European level for a review of the carbon allowance policy and to seek an exemption for Bulgaria under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
The Council of Ministers to draw up and submit to Parliament a strategy for sustainable energy development in Bulgaria, including a specific strategy for Maritsa Iztok to ensure the sustainable use of coal capacity and the preservation of jobs.
Take steps to protect socially and financially the regions that depend on the coal industry until stable alternative energy sources are secured.
