site.btaFrench Embassy Holds Press Conference on Events Marking 145 Years Since Establishment of French-Bulgarian Diplomatic Relations

French diplomatic mission in Bulgaria held a press conference Tuesday dedicated to the events organized Bulgaria on the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and France. The press conference was attended by representatives of the Bulgarian media, including BTA.
The press conference was organized by the Embassy of the French Republic in Bulgaria and was led by French Ambassador Joel Meyer and Luc Levy, Director of the French Institute and adviser on cultural cooperation.

This year marks the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and France in 1879. They were established on July 8, 1879, when the French Ambassador to Bulgaria, Eugene Schuyler, presented his letters of credence to Prince Alexander Battenberg and received accreditation as a diplomatic agent and consul of France in Bulgaria.

Meyer noted that an important feature of the relations between Bulgaria and France is that there have never been any conflicts between the two countries. The Ambassador also said that at the level of the European Union, Bulgaria and France are allies who have similar positions on issues, such as opinion that in order to achieve the goals of carbon neutrality, it is necessary to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Ambassador Meyer stressed the favourable trends in the development of economic relations between Bulgaria and France and noted that 150 French companies are established in Bulgaria and that France has helped create 10,000 jobs.
