site.btaDeputy Parliament Chair Kirova Addresses World Women’s Forum in Ulaanbaatar

Bulgaria is an example of a strong presence of women in the governance of the country, National Asssembly Deputy Speaker Rositsa Kirova told participants in the World Women's Forum in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, quoted by the parliament's press centre on Friday.

The Deputy Speaker made a statement on the main theme of the forum - "Towards a Green Future". The event was organized by Mongolia’s presidential administration and Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, one of the Deputy Speakers of the Parliament, the Vice President, as well as the chairpersons of several parliamentary committees in Bulgaria are women, Kirova said. She added that since its accession to the EU, Bulgaria has so far only nominated women as Bulgarian commissioners. In the words of the deputy speaker, these facts show that with perseverance and effort a path for women both in politics and in other areas of public life can open.

The issues of gender equality, suppressing violence, care for children, the elderly and people with disabilities are linked to the more global issues of ecological balance and regional development, Rositsa Kirova said in her remarks.

According to the Deputy Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, for women to participate in accelerating environmental action, they must be well educated and supported by family and society. In this respect, Bulgaria has a significant competitive advantage as the share of women in technology is the highest in the EU, Rositsa Kirova said. Bulgaria is among the top three EU countries in terms of the share of women scientists and engineers, she added.

During the forum, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Rositsa Kirova held talks with the Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament (the State Great Hural) Dashzegve Amarbayasgalan. Advancing inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries was the main topic of the meeting. It was generally agreed that the cordial and friendly relations between the two peoples of our recent past is a good basis for deepening our bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, education, light industry and tourism.

Bulgaria values friendly relations with Mongolia based on long-standing traditions and shared values, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament said in her talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagii Luvsannamsrain and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai. 

Bulgaria and Mongolia can cooperate in the production of goods and products according to European standards, Rositsa Kirova said at a meeting with Mongolian Minister of Agriculture and Light Industry Enkhbayar Jadamba. Bulgaria traditionally supports the education of Mongolian students at Bulgarian universities and currently 10 young people are studying In Bulgaria in specialities related to agricultural sciences, Kirova said.

Minister Enkhbayar Jadamba has expressed his willingness to head the Mongolia-Bulgaria Friendship Group in order to have even better interaction with the Mongolia Friendship Group in the Bulgarian National Assembly, whose chairperson is Rositsa Kirova.

At a meeting with the Minister of Roads and Transport Delgersaikhan Borkhuu, Rositsa Kirova underlined the strategic geographical position of the two countries, which makes them an important transit hub between the EU, Middle East and Asian markets. Rositsa Kirova and Delgersaikhan Borkhuu,were adamant that the preparation of agreements on international road passenger and freight transport and on air services is essential.
