site.btaFire in Slavyanka Mountain Extinguished
The fire that broke out late on Monday in the Slavyanka Mountain has been extinguished, Katuntsi State Forestry Director Plamen Poyukov told BTA on Tuesday.
"The fire broke out on our territory from lightning and we immediately went to the site, inspected the terrain and took immediate action to extinguish it. The rain helped us a lot. As of now the fire is totally extinguished and there is no problem," he added.
The other fire that entered Bulgaria from Greece in July has also been extinguished. In the past few days there have been duty officers monitoring local outbreaks, but there has been no activity, said Poyukov. "My guess is that where there are isolated smoldering outbreaks, the rain will put them out," he added.
Monday's fire in Slavyanka Mountain covered an area of 18-20 hectare. The Katuntsi State Forestry and the fire department were involved in the fire's containment.
