Working meetings initiated by caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Violeta Koritarova, addressed the water supply situation in the towns of Vidin (Northwestern Bulgaria) and Omurtag (Northeastern Bulgaria) here on Thursday. The meetings were attended by Deputy Minister Veselina Terziyska, representatives of the management of Bulgarian Water and Sewerage Holding EAD, local authorities, and experts, the Ministry said.

"The drought and drinking water shortage are palpable," Koritarova noted, adding that they are keeping in touch with all regions with water supply issues.

In the next three years, a large part of the internal water supply network of Omurtag will be renovated with state budget funds under the investment programme for municipal projects. So far, three agreements have been signed between the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and the municipality for the reconstruction of water pipelines in the settlement. Their implementation will address water losses and improve service quality, the Ministry added.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works expressed its readiness to assist the local authorities with regard to the water and sewerage infrastructure projects in order to implement them as quickly as possible.
