In a statement on Saturday, the Trade Union of the Employees in the Ministry of Interior (TUFEMI) said that the nomination of a caretaker Interior Minister should ensure the necessary calm and sustainability in order to lay the ground for good working conditions and results.

“We hope that the designated caretaker prime minister will familiarize herself with the processes and dynamics in the relationship between the ministers of the interior and TUFEMI and we trust that she will take a responsible approach by ensuring the necessary calm and sustainability with her nomination so that there are conditions for work and results - the kind that the public expects from us,” TUFEMI said. The union said it hoped that she would take an objective and rational approach to the appointment of a caretaker interior minister.

The trade union notes that there are increasing attempts to use for politically purposes the Ministry of Interior and the professionals working in it. They also point out that the "suggestions" of manipulation of the June 9 elections and the "criticism" of firefighters, as well as the "unjustified vilification of the Ministry by political representatives" are taken as an indirect accusation and insult to all 50,000 people working in the Interior Ministry.

"If there is evidence of election rigging by officials in the system, then this information should be presented not to the media and the general public, but to the prosecutor's office," the trade union said.

On Friday, President Rumen Radev designated Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva as caretaker prime minister. She is expected to start talks on the composition of the caretaker cabinet on Saturday. The President gave her until August 19 to present a draft cabinet.
