In the morning talk show of the Bulgarian National Television on Saturday, Vice President Iliana Iotova said that she sees three possible outcomes for Bulgaria after the upcoming parliamentary snap elections in the autumn.
According to Iotova, the first option is to form a minority government with a specific programme, which would have the approval of the majority in the National Assembly, but this happening without the individual political forces forming a ruling coalition.
The second option is to form a ruling coalition, even if it is a more extreme one, as there are already such examples in Europe, Iotova said.
In her words, the third option is to form a government of an expert nature.
Iotova argues that parties seem to be afraid to say in advance with whom they want to govern. This makes the vice-president think that the parties are ready to make bargains and backroom deals after the elections. According to her, there is nothing wrong in them letting the public see their prime minister contenders.
Iotova said she is optimistic after the talks following the handing of the third government-forming mandate, as she sees few differences between the leading parties in Bulgaria on what needs to be done in the country in the coming months. "That was part of fuelling my optimism that there should be a government", she noted.
Iotova voiced hope that caretaker prime minister designate Rositsa Grancharova-Kozhareva would calm the situation but added that she is not sure about it as elections are coming and each party would try to extract its own dividends from what is happening.
