There is tension in the Movement for Rights and Freedoms due to the blocked work of the collective bodies of the party, co-chair Dzhevdet Chakarov told journalists in Parliament. In his words, processes splitting the movement are underway, but he expressed hope that reason will prevail.

On July 3, long-time MP Ramadan Atalay was expelled from the MRF parliamentary group. Chakarov said that the unity and strength of MRF should be preserved, but the principles of governance in the party should be changed, because, in his words, it has become apparent that one-man rule leads to these processes.

"We shared the position that our Honorary Chairman Dr. Ahmed Dogan presented. The reasons for this were that, yes, Rosen Zhelyazkov is a wonderful candidate for prime minister, but it is not normal in an EU member state not to have any negotiation process - to see if the programmes coincide, if not in their entirety at least partially, to have clearly identified goals", he replied to a question whether there is a rift in MRF.

Regarding Wednesday's statement by MRF co-chair Delyan Peevski that he would exclude from the group the 15 MPs who did not vote in favour of the GERB-UDF draft cabinet on the grounds that they were not sharing the Euro-Atlantic values, Chakarov said that everyone in MRF shares these values. "From the founding until today our path is clear. MRF has always supported this path and has fought to defend these values," Chakarov said.
