"Disunity erodes statehood. Bulgarian voters demand changes, and it is the task of politicians and intellectuals to deliver them in a planned, deliberate and justified manner," Silvi Kirilov, the oldest MP present, said here on Wednesday after opening the inaugural sitting of the 50th National Assembly. 

"We live in a very turbulent time, we live in a time of divisions, we live in a complicated socio-political situation," he said. Kirillov noted that society mistrusts institutions and the political system, and there is a feeling of deficiency and lack of justice.

"Society is disunited and, moreover, the contradictions are often antagonistic," he added.

"The logical question is what we should do," Kirilov said. "I think that each of us personally or as a political party needs to analyze and realize our own shortcomings, to put aside our personal and narrow political interest for the sake of addressing the most important economic and domestic and foreign policy challenges," he said.

Kirilov sees a need of a stable, predictable and sustainable environment for the development of business, for a calm and secure everyday life of Bulgarian citizens who should feel justice and see that there is retribution for those who violate law and morality."

"The people has assigned us extremely important and fateful tasks to solve and we must live up to their trust," said Silvi Kirilov. He urged the MPs "to bring back common sense."
