The European Middle Class (EMC) Party announced Tuesday that it is leaving the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition. In a post on their website, they say that they decided to part ways with CC-DB "with full awareness of their responsibility to all voters and citizens, and the future of the country".

EMC joined CC-DB ahead of the general elections in 2021. They say now that they did that guided by the understanding that it was important to carry through reforms that are essential for the future of Bulgaria and that would oppose "the vicious model of GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms" (MRF). The decision of CC-DB to pool efforts with GERB and MRF has shown that "this is not the way to oppose their vicious model". "We believe that our values cannot be changed and it is impossible for us to work together with GERB and MRF with these people. That is why we cannot remain a part of an alliance for which it is admissible to work with corrupt representatives of GERB and MRF, who cater only to their business circles rather than to the people and society".

EMC is yet to decide how it will participate in the June 9 elections for national and European Parliament.

It is the second party to leave CC-DB. On April 15, it transpired that the Green Movement had voted to walk out of the coalition because it failed to stand up for its principles and push through important reforms.
