The Cabinet adopted Wednesday a decision approving a draft Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union (EU) Member States and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The new agreement will replace the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the Kyrgyz Republic which entered into force on July 1, 1999. It will build on the achievements of the previous one, providing a new, up-to-date and more ambitious legal framework for a future partnership, in line with developments and changes in the country, the region and globally.

The Enhanced Agreement represents an important step towards strengthening EU's political and economic engagement with the countries of Central Asia. It will also provide the basis for a more effective bilateral engagement between the EU and the Kyrgyzstan, strengthen political dialogue and economic interaction and enhance cooperation in a wide range of areas, including through initiatives such as EU's Global Gateway and the European Green Deal.
