site.btaCabinet Adopts Plan for Prevention of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza's Spread in Bulgaria for 2024-2026
The Council of Ministers adopted Wednesday a decision approving a Plan for the Prevention of the Spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) in Bulgaria for the period 2024-2026.
The H5N1 is one of the most highly contagious and deadly infectious birds diseases, causing devastating effects on the poultry sector and the economy of the affected regions.
The analysis of the epidemiological situation for the period 2016-2023 has identified some weaknesses in the control and fight against the disease. Coordinated and urgent actions are required that affect the competences of different institutions, agencies, organizations and others involved in the fight against H5N1.
The main objective of the Plan is prevention and containment of the spread and damage caused by H5N1, as well as achieving disease-free status through coordinated, widespread and systematic action.
