The Council of Ministers Monday approved a draft agreement on the provision of a voluntary non-core (earmarked) contribution of USD 40,000 (BGN 72,264) to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) emergency assistance programme for Ukraine. The funding will be provided from the budget of the Foreign Ministry, the government information service said.

The main objective of the UNESCO programme is to assist Ukraine in coping with the impact of Russian aggression with all the tools at her disposal in the fields of education, culture, science, communication, and information. So far, voluntary non-core contributions have been made by the majority of the EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden. UNESCO has mobilized more than USD 43 million, with the support of its Member States and other partners, to implement concrete actions on the ground.
