Nearly 2,000 citizens have applied to join the Vulnerable Persons Register in less than a month - since the beginning of March. Over 8,100 have indicated their wish to restrict their access to gambling since the beginning of the year, and almost 36,000 people have been added to the register since it was re-launched in 2022, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) said on Thursday.

After a two-year hiatus, regulated by legislative changes, in the end of 2022 NRA resumed maintaining the list of people it believes have or could develop a gambling addiction. The register is not public, the revenue agency reminds. It can only be accessed by a limited number of employees designated by NRA's executive director.

Organizers of gambling are obliged not to admit persons listed in the register. To comply with this requirement, they must request a link to the register via electronic service. To make it easier for businesses, NRA has implemented an e-service that enables the reference to be made via direct access to the register. Through it, gambling operators can exchange information directly and automatically with the revenue agency.

If a person entered in the register is allowed to gamble, a report must be submitted to the Revenue Agency's Information Centre for an immediate check.

Anyone who feels that they cannot control the time spent gambling and the money spent on gambling may submit a request for entry in the Register. The document can be submitted on site at an NRA office or sent by email to: nap@nra.bg. The request may specify a period for which the registration is to be made, which may not be shorter than two years.
