Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) co-leader Delyan Peevski Thursday commented that Boyko Borissov as the leader of GERB has the right to decide who will head the Foreign Ministry after the planned rotation in the Cabinet. "If he decides that Mariya Gabriel will be both prime minister and foreign minister, if he decides that another candidate will be appointed [as foreign minister], he will do so," Peevski told reporters when approached for comment on GERB and Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) arguing over the post of foreign minister.
Only GERB and CC-DB can reach an agreement on the government topic, Peevski commented further. "It is illogical for the rotation to not happen due to a single minister. CC should simply live with it that the will not get that ministerial post, because it is not for them, because GERB have only one ministry, and that is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Peevski added. If GERB and CC-DB decide so, there will be early elections, which is not a problem: the MRF is ready and would be happy with such elections being held simultaneously with the European Parliament elections.
"We do not wish to participate in the government. We participate in the parliamentary majority every day and we provide the balance needed for things to happen," Peevksi said, adding that the MRF wants Bulgaria to have an Euro-Atlantic majority and an Euro-Atlantic government.
Earlier on Thursday, GERB leader Borissov told journalists that his party will nominate another foreign minister if CC-DB do not agree Mariya Gabriel to be prime minister and foreign minister. “This is the only option”, Borissov stressed.
