Bulgarian Consul General in Valencia Nadia Krasteva visited the Balearic Islands, conferring with local authorities and representatives of the Bulgarian community there, the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Valencia said on Facebook on Wednesday.

Krusteva was received by Palma Mayor Jaime Martinez Llabres. The meeting was also attended by Jose Javier Bonet Diaz, Palma Deputy Mayor and General Councillor for Tourism, Innovation, Culture, Sports and Municipal Coordination, as well as by Svetla Petkova - President of the Association of Bulgarians in Mallorca.

The bilateral talks discussed ideas for cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, such as development of economic, trade and cultural relations between Bulgaria and the Balearic Islands, as well as opportunities for cooperation in the field of tourism and innovation.

Krasteva recalled that some 7,500 Bulgarians live on the Balearic Islands. They are united in five Bulgarian associations, two of which develop educational activities and the other three are folklore groups. Possibilities for cooperation in the fields of culture and education were also discussed. Llabres and the municipal councillors pledged to work together and strengthen ties with the local Bulgarian community, as well as to help opening a Bulgarian association in Calvia.

The meeting was followed by a concert on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Bulgarians in Mallorca. Krasteva was a guest of honour at the event.
