Since its inception on April 12, 2023, Bulgaria's 49th National Assembly has adopted 79 laws, 209 resolutions and three declarations, the parliamentary Press Centre reported on Friday as the legislature took Christmas recess until January 10, 2024.

Of the 89 plenary sittings held during that period, 16 were extraordinary.

A total of 234 bills were tabled, including 133 by MPs, and 274 of the 294 draft resolutions were also initiated by lawmakers. In addition, nine draft addresses and declarations were moved.

Until December 20, 2023, MPs addressed 2,011 questions and 57 interpellations to members of the executive. Question Time took place at 12 regular plenary sittings and four extraordinary plenary sittings. MPs of all parliamentary groups addressed 48 questions requiring a prompt verbal response during five sittings. The legislature used 102 hours and 52 minutes of its time for oversight of the executive. Twenty-one hearings and one discussion on an interpellation were held. Two motions of no confidence against the Government were defeated.  

Of the questions asked, 1,549 required a written response and 462 a verbal response. Forty-one interpellations sought a written response and 16 a verbal response. A total of 1,640 questions and 42 interpellations received responses, and 61 questions and two interpellations were withdrawn.

During its 2nd Session (September 1 - December 21, 2023), the 49th National Assembly held 42 plenary sittings, including 12 extraordinary ones. During that period the MPs adopted 47 laws, 12 resolutions and two declarations. Eighty-five bills, 113 draft resolutions and nine draft addresses and declarations were submitted within that session.

The 2nd Session saw 620 questions and 14 interpellations, four hearings, two motions of no confidence, Question Time at five plenary sittings and 19 questions requiring a prompt verbal response at two plenary sittings. The parliamentary time used for oversight of the executive totalled 30 hours and 36 minutes. Of the questions asked, 502 were for a written response and 118 for a verbal response. Responses were received to 477 questions, and 20 questions were withdrawn. Of the interpellations addressed, 502 required a written response and 118 a verbal response. Nine interpellations received responses.
