Nearly BGN 45 million will be returned to the State Consolidation Company for the unimplemented government complex project, Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov told the parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy and Innovation on Wednesday. A procedure is underway to get the sum back from the contractor, to whom over BGN 70 million (excluding VAT) were paid for the project in 2020 without a public procurement procedure.

Bogdanov also said that a legal dispute is expected for the rest of the sum, but the State has all arguments to recover a large part of the resources.

The Economy Minister said firmly that by getting this sum back, the State Consolidation Company will be able to pay part of its debt to the Bulgarian Development Bank.

The project for a new government complex comprising all ministries was given the green light by the third government of Boyko Borissov (April 2017 - May 2021). The complex was to be built on the territory of Sofia Tech Park in the capital with funding provided by the State Consolidation Company, which in turn took a loan from the Bulgarian Development Bank. In July 2021, the project was terminated by the caretaker government of Stefan Yanev but the obligations to the contractor were not.
