site.btaTISP Leader Trifonov Comments on PM Denkov's Remarks about National Awakeners Day

There Is Such a People (TISP) leader Stanislav (commonly known as Slavi) Trifonov sent an open letter to Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov in relation to Denkov’s remarks on the occasion of the National Awakeners Day, November 1. On Wednesday, the PM said that Bulgaria's future depends on whether or not Bulgarians choose to follow the example of their awakeners - the educators, scientists and writers, or the example of Bay Ganyo and Andreshko. Bay Ganyo is a notorious parvenu and demagogue in Aleko Konstantinov’s Bay Ganyo Makes Elections and Andreshko is an artful peasant in a short story by another Bulgarian classic writer, Elin Pelin.

Trifonov responded sarcastically, "It is good to have you to lead us. You and the rest of the awakeners from Continue the Change (CC), because if it's not you, you and the other CC bright minds, we will be sitting in the swamp next to the bailiff. With that metaphor, I show that I have read Andreshko".

"I have also read Bay Ganyo and I understand perfectly well what you mean by what you said on TV. You are something like Jireček, and we are sitting in the train compartment and we want to eat pears," Trifonov’s letter reads, referring to Jireček - another character of Aleko Konstantinov’s feuilletons on Bay Ganyo, created on the image of Konstantin Jireček - an Austro-Hungarian Czech historian, politician and diplomat who wrote extensively on Bulgarian history. Jireček is Bay Ganyo’s antipode.

"I know I'll never reach your perfection, I know I'll never be as smart and beautiful as you and the other amazing talents in CC, and that makes me sad. But then again, I am glad you exist. You and the other perfect CC individuals. Thank you for being here. I walk with my head bowed in the direction you are leading us. You and the other wise politicians of Continue the Change", Trifonov's sarcastic response also reads.
