The parliamentary group of Continuing the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) will vote to override President Rumen Radev's veto on the amendments to the Energy Act, however, this will happen after the local elections, CC-DB co-chair Kiril Petkov told reporters here on Wednesday. Petkov said that CC-DB MPs will not participate in the extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly scheduled for Friday.

At the extraordinary sitting, MPs are scheduled to debate on the presidential veto on Energy Act amendments adopted on October 5, 2023, as well hold a first-reading vote on a bill to amend the Crude Oil and Petroleum Products Stocks Act, tabled by MP Delyan Dobrev of GERB and MP Yordan Tsonev of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

Petkov commented that the presidential veto should be overridden, in order to have a clear reform as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. "On the other hand, we have also said that on the Friday before the elections, when people all over Bulgaria have to make their most important decisions about who their mayor should be, it is absurd to throw dust in their eyes with national issues," Petkov said. In his words, electoral circuses in parliament are absolutely unnecessary, which is why the CC-DB coalition will skip Parliament's sitting on Friday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Vazrazhdane parliamentary group said it will not be present in the debating chamber on Friday.
