Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel will ensure continuity after they rotate their posts next year. The goal is to put an end to the tradition where as a new prime minister takes office, everything initiated by the previous one gets denounced and new ideas and ambitions are announced. This transpires from Denkov's statement during Tuesday's  “Government Meets the Business" forum organised by Capital magazine.

The Government Information Service quotes Denkov as saying that at present, all important matters are discussed between the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, thus ensuring the necessary support from the parliamentary groups backing the Cabinet. Denkov considers it normal to have a clash of initiatives and ideas between these political forces as well a mechanism for discussions.

The dialogue between the various institutions is of key importance, he noted. "In the end, it is important to take the right decisions that are supported and can be sustainable in time," the Prime Minister argued. He expressed regret that the presidential institution does not take part in that process.

While the Government manages to present results to society and its political partners, it will be filled with meaning and will be sustainable, Denkov also said. According to him, the Cabinet is implementing its governance programme successfully. Parliament passes laws that catch up on reforms that have been delayed for years. "Despite the attempts at political blows that we received due to them, we managed to implement decisions that had been postponed because of being difficult and sensitive. We managed to implement them exactly because we have political support in the National Assembly that allows us to make decisions," the Prime Minister noted.

He listed three groups of actions that the Government will work on until the end of 2024: changes in the main systems (justice, administration, education, healthcare); integration of Bulgaria in important international institutions (Schengen area, eurozone, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development); and modernization of Bulgaria's economy. Denkov believes that Bulgaria and its neighbours can work together and turn the Balkans into a leading European region.
