Since there has been a new ruling majority, the mechanism for oversight of the prosecutor general has been put on hold with an unnecessary law and the Supreme Judicial Council has been blocked, pacified and abandoned, said former justice minister and presidential adviser Krum Zarkov on national radio.

The prosecutor general was dismissed and replaced and everything ended, said Zarkov.
Zarkov said that the ruling coalition does not care about the essence of the constitutional amendments but is determined to vote them through at any cost because it needs them to justify to voters a coalition between parties which don’t like each other.

He said that some of the proposals should be backed. The legislation process in Bulgaria has improved but it takes higher standards to amend the Constitution, said Zarkov.

According to him the separation of the Supreme Judicial Council which began in 2016 should continue but the balance in the prosecutors’ council should be considered carefully. He also raised the question for how long a Supreme Judicial Council whose term has expired can stay in office.

The former justice minister expressed doubts in connection with the efficiency of the counter-corruption act, adopted recently by Parliament.
Of an agreement with protesting miners and energy workers, endorsed by Parliament, Zarkov said that it is self-contradictory and there will be no results.
