President Rumen Radev wrote a congratulatory address on Facebook regarding the International Day of Older Persons on Sunday. "This holiday gives us an occasion to remember the older people with gratitude for all the good they have done and with respect for the experience they have gained," his massage says.

"The society we want to be does not abandon its elderly, on the contrary - it guarantees them the right to a dignified old age with adequate income, medical care and social protection. Solidarity between generations begins with the restoration of links between people of different ages," the head of State's address points out.

The International Day of Older Persons has been celebrated on October 1 since 1991 to raise public awareness of the problems of older persons and to celebrate their contribution to and participation in society. The theme of the day in 2023 is linked to the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10 December 1948), with a focus on intergenerational solidarity.
