As of September 29, Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry will launch a national hotline and an email address for alerts about irregularities related to the October 29 local elections, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at the beginning of a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, all parties and coalitions registered their lists of candidates for the late-October local elections, Denkov said. He adding that all candidates have started campaigning actively across the country even though, formally, the campaign is not expected to begin until September 29.

He stressed that all state institutions, including the Council of Ministers, are responsible for ensuring fair and transparent elections. “That is why a unit has been set up to pool the efforts of the prosecution service, the Interior Ministry, and the State Agency for National Security,” Denkov said.

Denkov urged Bulgarian people to send alerts for electoral violations and vowed that the competent institutions to do everything possible to prevent any irregularities.
