site.btaAttempts to Complete Belene N-plant Lack Feasibility, Cannot Attract Investors
Any attempts to build the Belene N-plant fail to meet the necessary economic justification to attract investors, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said in a live Q&A session on Facebook Thursday.
In early July, parliament instructed the energy minister to start negotiations with Ukraine on the sale of Russian equipment originally purchased for the Belene N-plant.
According to Denkov, there is no point in keeping the equipment sitting there if there are no investors. "If there was hesitation before Russia invaded Ukraine, there is no point in discussing the matter of the equipment now. It is clear that the aggressor will be under EU sanctions for many years to come," the prime minister said. According to him, there is no way to work with Russia on the construction of the site. The equipment costs over BGN 1 billion and it is very good that a buyer has appeared, Denkov argued.
He added that Bulgaria is developing its nuclear energy.
