The name of the late Alexey Petrov, a controversial business, was never mentioned in any way  in the preparation of the legislative, the management programme and in the discussion of the ministers, said Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov during Parliament’s Question Time on Friday. He was responding to questions from There Is Such a Nation MP Grozdan Karadzhov, related to a statement GERB leader Boyko Borissov made earlier in the day.

“I do not know Alexey Petrov, I have never spoken to him, I have seen him twice at meetings attended by employers' organisations. I have never heard of meetings with Alexey Petrov before the murder, after which such information was leaked to the media,” Denkov explained.

“I have been directly involved in all the processes related to the preparation of the legislative programme, which is currently being implemented, and the management programme. Alexey Petrov's name has never been mentioned or has come up in these processes,” the Prime Minister added.

The quality of the Bulgarian justice system is decisive for Netherlands’ support regarding Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen and the member state is currently waiting for a report from the European Commission (EC) on how the rules and laws have changed in Bulgaria and how they are applied, said Denkov, responding to another question.

This legislative programme, which was elaborated with GERB-UDF, is still up to date and will be presented as results to the EC, which will forward the information to the member states and this information will be essential when the final decision is taken - October or December this year,” he explained.

Austria expects to be assured that Bulgaria is doing everything possible to minimize the flow of migrants across its borders, Denkov added.

So far, the Netherlands and Austria are against Bulgaria's Schengen accession.
