Continue the Change (CC) co-leader and former prime minister Kiril Petkov has been assigned security detail, CC told BTA here on Wednesday. The political force declined to comment the reasons for this. Petkov also co-chairs the CC-DB Parliamentary Group. 

Approached to comment media reports that the National Service for Protection (NSP) has assigned security to five senior Bulgarian politicians due to emerged threats, the NSP told BTA they are not authorized to comment on who has been assigned security as this is classified information. 

According to the NSP Act, when a threat emerges in peacetime, an interdepartmental commission decides to assign security to persons who have held the posts of National Assembly chair or prime minister, as well as persons linked to national security, an attack on whom would undermine, weaken or create difficulties for the government. Such persons are entitled to specialized transport up to four years after they leave office.
