Emerging from the first meeting of the newly elected regular cabinet, Defence Minister Todor Tagarev told reporters that Bulgaria should continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. "This is extremely important to ensure Bulgaria's security. Exactly what we give depends on many other things - on real needs at the particular moment, on what we have at the particular moment. There has to be authorization from the National Assembly and that is exactly how we will act - in a transparent and clear way, as one should act in a parliamentary republic," Tagarev said.

Taking a question whether a request from the Ukrainian side to provide specific military assistance has been made, Tagarev said that so far he has not been presented with any specific documents. Next week there will be a ministerial meeting in Brussels, which will be preceded by a meeting in the Ramstein format, and he assumes that there he will get clearer information on the specific requests at the moment. This is important because "needs change gradually and we will see what we can do best to help," the Defence Minister said.

As his first priority, the Tagarev identified the formation of an appropriate team of people. He announced that he would be supported in his work by two deputy ministers, and so far the name of only one of them is known - Stanimir Georgiev, who, according to the minister, has already been appointed.
