site.btaUnion of Jurists: Prominent Legal Expert Teams to Develop Clear Concept on Judicial System Development

The Union of Bulgarian Jurists proposes the setting up of several teams of prominent legal experts to develop a clear concept on the development of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the court, the prosecution service, the investigating magistracy, the investigating police officers, the Inspectorate with the SJC and legal education, the Union said in a proposal addressed to the head of State, the National Assembly Chair, the SJC and the Supreme Bar Council.

"The judicial system is conservative and cannot be changed piecemeal day in, day out. Therefore, we must clearly and category decide what result we want and how to achieve it," the organization points out. They recall that the judicial reform in Bulgaria has been going on for more than 30 years but jurists are "left with the feeling of, to put it mildly, dissatisfaction, failure to achieve the desired results and lack of justice."

The Union of Jurists points out that the legal expert teams who should address the issues of the legal system can consist of MPs, secretary for legal affairs to the President, experts of the Council of Ministry, the ministries of interior and justice, researchers, SJC members, judges, prosecutors and investigating magistrates, lawyers and representatives of legal NGOs.
