Six men have been arrested during a police crackdown on conventional crime and vote buying in Sliven's Roma neighbourhood Nadezhda, the regional Security Police chief, Commissioner Dimitar Kikyov, told journalists here on Thursday.

Searching a private residence, the law enforcers found lists of names with sums of money beside each name and a five-digit sum in cash.

The operation began at midnight.

The detainees include theft perpetrators, a man wanted by another regional directorate in connection with numerous offences, and a motor vehicle driver who disobeyed a police order.

Four road blocks have been set up in the territory of Sliven Region.

The specialized police operation will continue until the close of the polls on Sunday. The Sliven Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry has so far instituted five pre-trial proceedings for vote buying.
