At its weekly meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision on the opening of a Bulgarian consulate in Silver Spring, Maryland, with a consular district covering the State of Maryland, and on the appointment of US national Neil Goldstein Glick as honorary consul.
Glick is a real estate agent. In his former capacity as a six-term elected official in the District of Columbia Government (2001-2013) and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (2010), he contributed to naming the R and 22nd Street intersection in DC (in front of the Bulgarian Embassy) Dimitar Peshev Plaza in 2013, honouring Peshev's contribution to the salvation of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust during WW II. This initiative earned Glick a Gold Olive Branch of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
The Council of Ministers also decided to revoke its act on the opening of an honorary consulate in Chandigarh, India, owing to the refusal by the Indian Government to issue a consular exequatur for the appointed honorary consul.
