Ice skating is a great chance for people of all ages to experience winter sports. The largest ice park in the Balkans - Ice Park Sofia occupies an area of 3,500 sq m in Prince's Garden and is comprised of two ice rinks interconnected with ice alleys. The project was organized with the assistance of Sofia Municipality and the Sofia - European Capital of Sport Foundation.
The park fashioned after a skating rink complex in Vienna will be open for visitors until March 1. It has 2,000 pairs of skates available to rent, simulators to train kids to skate, 12 instructors, and a full-time medical service.
The ice skating rink in Vazrazhdane Park in Zona B-5 is also open for skating enthusiasts. The rink, part of the facilities of the Sportna Sofia outdoor sports complex, has an area of 800 sq m and a capacity of up to 100 skaters at a time. It offers good conditions for skating in an open park environment, as well as ice hockey and figure skating training sessions for beginners.
Ice rink Yunak, near Vasil Levski metro station, offers brand new skates for rent. This season, the facility accepts MultiSport and Multisport Kids cards. Large groups can take advantage of the Family and Friends package, which offers six tickets for the price of five. Children under 13 can enter the 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. sessions for free on weekdays.
On January 8, Ecopack will organize a recycling campaign entitled RE-sport event at Yunak between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Anyone who brings 10 kg of glass packaging or 2 kg of plastic bottles and aluminium cans will get tickets to rent skates and enter the rink for free. The tickets can be used at any time during the season.
The COOP ice rink, also known as Ledenata, with an area of 200 sq m is indoors and made entirely of synthetic ice. This allows it to function throughout the year, unlike traditional ice rinks. Simulators are available for children to help them gain confidence on the ice faster. Ledenata is the only ice rink in Bulgaria to offer ice bumper cars. If you get tired of skating, the facility also offers table tennis.
Slavia Ice Centre offers a number of services including lessons in hockey, figure skating, and short-track speed skating.
