Bulgaria's National Assembly is holding a hearing of outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov on the supply and price of natural gas. The hearing takes place behind closed doors because some of the information is classified.

The hearing was included on the parliamentary agenda at the request of GERB-UDF MP Delyan Dobrev.

The National Assembly will also debate and vote conclusively on amendments to the Higher Education Act, as well as ratifications of international documents.

The sitting began with a declaration by Vazrazhdane in connection with the prices of fuels.

Acting National Assembly Chair Miroslav Ivanov said that in connection with the hearing of Petkov and Nikolov reports have been submitted at the classified records office in Parliament. He asked the outgoing prime minister and energy minister to confirm whether these documents have any connection. Afterwards he invoked article 44 of the parliamentary Rules of Organization which allows the sitting to be held behind closed doors without putting the decision for this to the vote.

The opposition GERB had asked that the sitting is open and debates went on for an hour.

GERB-UDF floor leader Dessislava Atanassova told a news briefing that the parliamentary group will attend to vote against a possible proposal for a cabinet and until then it finds it pointless to attend parliamentary sittings.
