Yanko Yordanov, Bulgaria's newly appointed Ambassador to Benin, based in Abuja, Nigeria, presented his credentials to Benin's Foreign Minister Aurelien Agbenonchi in Cotonou on June 29, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
June 25 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Benin. On this occasion, the Bulgarian Ambassador and the Beninese Foreign Minister discussed prospects for the development of cooperation between the two countries, with an emphasis on intensifying political dialogue through exchange of visits and consultations, intensifying business contacts, especially in pharmaceuticals, information technology, agriculture and agro-food industry, and promoting cultural and educational ties. The two sides highlighted the role of the Association of Benin Citizens who have graduated in Bulgaria.
The Beninese side expressed prior consent for the appointment of Jivko Mihaylov as honorary consul of Bulgaria in Cotonou. Mihaylov also attended the meeting in the Beninese Foreign Ministry.
Based in Abuja, Yanko Yordanov is Bulgaria's Ambassador to Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Ghana, and Congo.
