Kiril Simeonov, an MP from There Is Such a People (TISP), told journalists Friday that he is leaving his party, thus becoming the sixth TISP MP to split from the parliamentary group.
Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, Simeonov added: "I entered politics on an absolutely meritocratic basis, with no parents to have been party members, no one to support me, no businessmen behind me, nothing. When I met with Slavi Trifonov, he asked me 'Why are you here? What are you fighting for?'. I told him that I am here to fight the system, the status quo. Yesterday we voted together with that system, and I am ashamed of it," he stated, speaking of Thursday's motion for the replacement of Parliament Chair Nikola Minchev who was removed with votes of TISP, GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Vazrazhdane.
"I am not GERB, I am not the MRF, and when I get home to my children tonight, I need to be able to look them in the eyes," Simeonov said.
On Monday, the outgoing Minister of Youth and Sports, Radostin Vasilev, and five other MPs also left TISP. The five other MPs are Nikolay Radulov, Ivo Atanasov, Georgi Georgiev, Deyan Petkov, and Svetlin Stoyanov.
Breakaways in TISP began when party leader Slavi Trifonov said in a video address on June 8 that he is withdrawing his ministers from the Government, in which his party had become a coalition partner together with Continue the Change, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and Democratic Bulgaria.
