Nako Stefanov is a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections on October 25, according to a decision by the Central Election Commission. He was put forward by a nomination committee alongside vice-presidential candidate Nina Lambova.

Stefanov was born in Sofia on June 19, 1954. He holds the academic rank of Professor and possesses a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences degree as well as a doctorate in History. He is fluent in Japanese, Russian, and English. He is a specialist in Japanese studies and a researcher of the countries of East, Southeast, and South Asia. He teaches at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Plovdiv University Paisii Hilendarski, the Technical University of Sofia, New Bulgarian University, and other institutions. He has authored over 80 monographs, textbooks, and books, as well as more than 200 articles and research papers. He serves as a consultant on quality management, human resources, and equipment maintenance for numerous domestic and foreign enterprises in countries including Hungary, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of North Macedonia.

He is the Chair of the Bulgarian National Peace Council and a member of the leadership of the Anti-Fascist Forum – Bulgaria.
