Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov said construction work on Plovdiv's Southeastern Bypass will restart once all administrative, technical and design issues are resolved. At Question Time on Friday, Vazrazhdane MP Angel Georgiev asked about the expected resumption of the project.
Shishkov said the project could move forward only after all outstanding problems from previous stages of preparation are cleared, most of which are linked to Plovdiv Municipality.
The Road Infrastructure Agency has assured Shishkov that work is ongoing to find technical solutions to all outstanding issues requiring additional design and coordination time, in order to ensure the safe and high-quality completion of a 5 km stretch of the Southeastern Bypass between the Skobeleva Mayka road junction and the road to Asenovgrad.
Shishkov did not commit to a specific date for the resumption of construction but rejected claims that it would not happen within the year. He said an exact timeline would be announced soon, stressing that works would resume only after several conditions are met, including the redesign of the project due to the discovery of weak soil foundations and the need for ground consolidation.
He added that illegal structures within the project's footprint must be fully removed, for which the municipality has a two-week deadline to provide the necessary documentation. Another condition is the relocation of an existing transformer substation, for which an agreement with the electricity distribution company is being prepared.
