Residents gathered outside the Palace of Justice in Sofia on Sunday to honour the memory of victims of road traffic accidents.

Demonstrators said that they had come out to express their civic stance and support the families of road traffic victims. Road safety means protecting the lives and health of children, one demonstrator told the Bulgarian News Agency and noted the low turnout at the event. "It is always like this, we are vocal on social media, but when it comes to taking action, you can count the people on the fingers of one hand," another participant said. Some of those present identified corruption as a major cause of road accidents. "When you know there is no punishment, you have neither fear nor conscience to obey the rules," one demonstrator noted.

The demonstration was organized by the Angels on the Road Association.
