Turkiye has discovered oil reserves estimated at 57 million barrels, with a total value of around USD 4 billion, according to figures presented by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar in a interview with Anadolu Agency.

One of the country’s most significant new oil fields is located in Diyarbakir, where production could reach between 4 and 6 million barrels. Meanwhile, Turkiye continues exploration activities in the Black Sea, where the second phase of gas prospecting is expected to be completed in 2026. The reserves under the seabed are projected to meet the energy needs of 8 million households.

“We’ve taken major initial steps in drilling and exploring for natural gas, oil, and other fuels,” Bayraktar said. He noted that 75 billion cubic meters of natural gas have already been discovered across three major fields. These reserves could meet Turkiye’s gas consumption for 1.5 years or for 4 to 5 years if used more efficiently, with some of the most significant finds located in the Black Sea.

The minister also said that, starting August 2, natural gas from Azerbaijan will reach the Syrian city of Aleppo via Kilis, a Turkish city near the Syrian border. In parallel, Turkiye will supply Syria with 900 megawatts of electricity – enough to power 1.6 million households.

Additionally, Bayraktar revealed that Turkiye's second floating production platform, currently in the Far East, is expected to return to Turkiye in December 2027.
