site.btaMarijuana Worth BGN 1.24 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Checkpoint

Customs officers at the Lesovo Border Checkpoint seized nearly 78 kg of marijuana in two separate inspections of a van and a passenger car, the Customs Agency said here on Tuesday.

On March 14, a foreign-registered van driven by a Romanian national was inspected at the inbound checkpoint from Turkiye. Officers found 100 vacuum-sealed packages containing 60.176 kg of marijuana hidden in the sleeping compartment above the driver.

On March 16, a Bulgarian-registered passenger car heading from Bulgaria to Turkiye was selected for inspection. After removing the front and rear bumpers, officers discovered 15 vacuum-sealed packages with 17.572 kg of marijuana.

The total seized amount of marijuana is 77.748 kg, valued at over BGN 1.24 million. Two pre-trial proceedings are underway under the supervision of the Yambol Regional Prosecution Office.
