Three men, believed to be foreign nationals who illegally crossed the border between Bulgaria and Turkiye, were found dead in the area served by the Border Police Department in Sredets (Southeast Bulgaria), Border Police spokesperson Lora Lyubenova told BTA on Tuesday.

Lyubenova explained that these were two distinct incidents. She mentioned that the first report about two deceased individuals was made to the emergency number 112 on December 28. A border patrol sent to the location found the bodies of two men without identification documents. The case was reported to the Burgas Prosecution Office, which has launched an investigation. No signs of violence were found on the bodies. The next day, on December 29, a third body was discovered.

The identity of the three men is still unknown. At this stage, it is assumed that the three attempted to traverse the rugged terrain of Strandzha.

Legal experts told BTA that during pre-trial proceedings, bodies must be identified by their relatives. However, this process is often lengthy and slow, and it frequently ends without success, particularly in cases involving migrants, as their relatives are often difficult to locate.
