An eathquake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was registered in the Black Sea in Bartin Province in North Turkiye at 10:16 am local time on Friday, the Government Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported. Initial reports indicate no injuries or damage.

The epicentre was in the waters off the town of Amasra at a depth of 9 km. The quake caused panic among the population.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimates a magnitude of 5.2.

The quake was also felt in neighbouring counties as well as in some areas of Istanbul, the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute said.

Amasra District Governor Kadir Parci said no reports of negative effects as a result of the quake have been received so far, Turkish private broadcaster CNN Turk reported. "We continue to check and investigate," he added.
