Cases of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) have been detected in four flocks of sheep and goats in Greece's north-eastern Evros Prefecture, Greek state-owned ERT TV reported. Evros Prefecture borders on Bulgaria and Turkiye.

Greece first detected cases of the contagious disease, also known as sheep and goat plague, on July 11, but they were in the central, southern and western parts of the country.

PPR outbreaks have been registered in Bulgaria's neighbour Romania as well.

The PPR virus does not infect humans.
