Unseasonable hot weather has gripped Turkey. On Tuesday, temperatures reached 40C in Edirne province which borders on Bulgaria and 39C in Karklareli, the other province on the border with Bulgaria, the Anadolu News Agency reported.
In Adrianople, the heat is particularly hard to bear due to high humidity caused by three big rivers crossing the city. Local people and visitors are seeking respite from the heat in the city parks and gardens, covered bazaars and mosque courtyards.
The temperature in the capital Ankara reached 34C on Tuesday. It was over 40C in the southern districts.
On Wednesday, the heat is expected to intensify.
Meteorologists say temperatures in Turkey these days are several degrees higher than what is normal for this time of the year.
