The Association of Descendants of Refugees and Migrants from the Territory of the Republic of North Macedonia and Friends said on Thursday it had filed a proposal to the National Assembly to take the necessary steps against draft resolution S.Res.311 submitted to the US Congress, designating September 2023 as "Macedonian American Heritage Month" and celebrating the language, history, and culture of Macedonian Americans and their incredible contributions to the United States.

The Association co-chaired by Prof. Trendafil Mitev and Assoc. Prof. Spas Tashev said this was Skopje's third attempt to manipulate Senators and work against the objective facts. The first two attempts were rejected by the House of Representatives and the Senate respectively.

"We are calling for wider media coverage and analysis of our proposal because we believe the existence of a public interest is a prerequisite for the National Assembly to decide to take the necessary actions to protect the Bulgarian national interest in the territory of the United States," the press release said.

According to the Association, "the most appropriate institution to address the US Congress is the Bulgarian institution corresponding to its rank, the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. We appeal to all Bulgarian MPs to urgently prepare and send to the US Congress a reasoned statement against draft resolution S.Res.311 and thus protect the Bulgarian national interest and the good partnership between the US and Bulgaria".

In the coming days, the Association will send a reasoned statement to the US Congress.
