Cooking workshops and food tasting were held Thursday at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. Residents and guests of the Romanian city had the opportunity to taste local products from small producers and talk to students from the educational institution about healthy food, fighting waste and caring for the environment.

"We want to promote gastronomy as part of intangible heritage. We have workshops for tasting local products made in social enterprises in Timis County by orphaned children. Young people have the opportunity to try these products, to feel the difference between an industrial and an artisanal product", the Center for Ethical Resources and Solidarity chair and coordinator of the project told BTA.

Teachers from 15 schools and high schools in Timisoara are participating in the programme and are preparing special projects that they will implement together with children and youth in the coming months. Some 650 students and their families will also be involved in various activities until November - they will garden and cook at school and at home with their parents or grandparents, learn to eat clean and healthy local produce, manage their shopping, make anti-waste jars, go on trips outside the city and collect medicinal plants, creatively recycle and reuse old clothes.

The event is part of the cultural programme Timisoara 2023: European Capital of Culture and is financed by the Municipality.
