It was snowing in many parts of Turkiye Wednesday morning, including the capital Ankara and Istanbul. The temperatures plunged by as much as 15C within a couple of days.
It was minus 4C in Ankara and the forecast for Thursday is for minus 6C.
Heavy rain on Tuesday in the capital city caused local flooding and disturbed traffic but the rain has since turned to snow. The entire Chankaya region has a snow cover, as do the higher parts of the country.
In Istanbul, the snow has lingered on the higher parts. The temperatures have reached the freezing point but weathermen promise warmer hours in the afternoon.
A weather alert has been issued for 56 cities, including gale-force wind in Eastern Anatolia.
